Dr. Kyla Day Fletcher

Dr. Kyla Day Fletcher’s research integrates sexual socialization and sexual health into a broad framework addressing disparities in sexual outcomes. Her most recent work has expanded to include the area of substance use and sexuality, where she investigates the role of socio-cultural constructs and romantic relationships in substance use and sexual health behavior. Using a community-based approach and culture-based lens, she seeks to understand factors influencing the intersection of gender and power in the initiation and development of romantic relationships, and to identify the predictive nature of romantic and sexual relationships in substance and sexual risk-taking.  When she is not standing on her soapbox, waxing poetic about positive sexuality and sexual health, Dr. Fletcher enjoys taking in the art scene in Grand Rapids with her husband, Nicolas, and her two children: Alejandra and Logan.
